About the Bible translation used and layout of the studies

World English Bible
History
  • The World English Bible came about in order to provide a complete translation of the Holy Bible in normal, modern English
  • It can provide unrestricted free posting on the internet and also be freely copied without written permission from the publisher and payment of royalties.
  • No other Bible is thus available and this is the vacuum that the World English Bible is filling.
  • The World English Bible is an update of the American Standard Version of 1901, which is on the public domain.
  • The WEB revision is also in the public domain, which sets it apart from other revisions of the American Standard Version, like the New American Standard Bible and the Revised Standard Version

Translation Method
  • The translations method of the World English Bible is primarily that of formal equivalence          (word for word)
  • It is based on the 1901 American Standard Version, the Greek Majority Text, and the Hebrew Hebraica Stuttgartensia.
  • The WEB does not capitalize deity pronouns but does use the original Hebrew “Yahweh”
World English Bible
Pro’s & Con’s
  • Overall, the WEB is a very good translation, sticking closely to formal equivalence in most instances.
  • If there is a downside to the WEB, it is that it is not always in the most natural-sounding and free flowing English
  • This is likely due to the WEB going with as literal renderings as possible
Layout of Studies
Semi outline form
  • The studies are laid out in semi outline form.
  • The reason for this is we are only trying to introduce portions of scriptures that deal with different subjects and provoke the reader to dig into the subjects and search them out in a deeper way for themselves.
Layout of studies
Bolded, italics, underlined
  • This is done to bring attention to the words so that the reader may take extra time to think about them and allow the Spirit to reveal deeper understanding of what God is conveying to his children.
  • It is often easy to read right past words that God has had written down that he desires us to understand and take to heart.
  • We understand that God speaks to each of us in different ways and we do not want to structure these messages in such a way that it does not allow God’s spirit to work in our hearts as well as our minds.
Layout of studies
  • Bullets
  • Bullets are used to point out information that is defining words that have been bolded, comments or thoughts given by the person or persons putting the studies together.
  • There are also scripture references given that we feel relate to the subject being studied.
